THE MULTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF KENORA AND DISTRICT
The Multicultural Association of Kenora and District (MAKD) is a non-profit association that has been providing services to Kenora and surrounding area for over 30 years.
The Information, Orientation and Referral (IOR) Settlement Counsellor provides newcomers and established immigrants with practical assistance for the challenges of everyday life in Kenora. Services include referrals, advocacy, consumer and community information, help completing Citizenship applications and all forms pertaining to Citizenship & Immigration Canada, and orientation/information sessions. Funding is provided by Citizenship & Immigration Canada and is a free service.
The Community Interpreter Access Service has been providing trained interpreters to agencies and individuals throughout Kenora and surrounding area since 1989. As with its counterparts across the province, the service follows strict guidelines to select and train a pool of fluent and qualified Interpreters. Services are provided on a 24 hour on call basis.
Funding is provided under the Ministry's Violence Against Women Prevention Initiative, and all services for female victims of violence are 100% subsidized under this initiative.
