THE MULTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF KENORA AND DISTRICT
The Multicultural Association of Kenora and District (MAKD) is a non-profit association that has been providing services to Kenora and surrounding area for 25 years.
The Immigrant Settlement & Adaptation Program (ISAP)Settlement Worker provides newcomers and established immigrants with practical assistance for the challenges of everyday life in Kenora. Services include needs assessment, referrals, advocacy, consumer and community information, help completing Citizen applications and all forms pertaining to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and orientation/information sessions. Funding is provided by Citizenship & Immigration Canada and is a free service offered to the Community.
The Community Interpreter Access Service has been providing trained interpreters to agencies throughout the Kenora and Rainy River area since 1989. As with its counterparts across the province, the service follows strict guidelines to select and train a pool of fluent and qualified Interpreters, then offers their services to a wide range of agencies and situations on a 24 hour basis. Funding is provided under the Ministry's Violence Against Women Prevention Initiative, and all services for female victims of violence are 100% subsidized under this initiative.
The Association and its Volunteers provide Cultural Resources to area schools participating in Multicultural Activities. Volunteer Members are also available to schools for information sessions.
